dc3tog – *Yarn over, insert your hook into the stitch indicated, yarn over, pull up 1 loop. Yarn over, pull through 2 loops. Yarn over, insert your hook into the next stitch. Yarn over pull up 1 loop. You have 4 loops on your hook. Yarn over, pull through 2 loops. You have 3 loops on your hook. Yarn over, insert your hook into the next stitch. Yarn over, pull up 1 loop. You have 5 loops on your hook. Yarn over, pull through 2 loops. You now have 4 loops on your hook.  Yarn over, pull through all four loops.

picot – Ch 3, sc in the 3rd st from your hook.

GOOD TO KNOW: The shawl is made in the filét crochet technique. You start from the bottom and work to the top. Increases are done in both sides every row. Turn the shawl after every row.

Remember ch1sp is 1 st.

Remember: Two black squares together is 5 dc, 3 is 7 dc and so on.

Make a last row of dc’s in the blue yarn as follows

Ch 3, 2 dc in same st, [*1 dc in dc, 1 dc in chsp* repeat *-* until ch2sp, 1 dc in ch2sp, 1 dc in dc3tog, 1 dc in chsp, 1 dc in dc3tog, 1 dc in ch2sp] repeat until you have one st left on the row, 3 dc. Cut the yarn and fasten off.

BORDER:

Use the white yarn.

Row 1: Turn your work, start in the last st made in the blue yarn. 1 sc in every st along the upper edge, make (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc) in the last st, 3 sc around every ch3 or dc along the side, ch 3, 3 sc around every ch3 or dc along the last side, ch 2, slst in first sc made. Do not turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, 1 sc in same st, 1 sc in every sc along the upper edge, (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc) in the corner chsp, *ch 3, sk 2 st, 1 sc* (the sc should be in the second sc of the 3 sc’s around the ch3 or dc in previous row), repeat *-* along the side, the last sc is made in the corner chsp in the bottom of the shawl, *ch 3, sk 2 st, 1 sc* repeat*-* along the last side, (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc) in the corner chsp, slst in first sc made. Do not turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, 1 sc in same st, 1 sc in every sc along the upper edge, (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc) in the corner chsp, ch 2, *sc in ne chsp, 1 picot* repeat all around to the last chsp made in previous row, ch 2, (1 sc, ch 2, 1 sc) in the corner chsp, 1 sc, slst in first sc made. Cut the yarn and fasten off.

Block the shawl for a beautiful result.
